Gearing Up

My favorite mug from my last firing at Chico State! Sniff, sniff.

I have been working my way through the mountains of stuff I brought home from the school studio.  It is amazing just how much accumulated in four years.  I'm still having a hard time getting used to the idea that I actually graduated.  Last night, while making small talk, an acquaintance asked me if I was looking for a job.  After all, that's what you are supposed to do after graduating, right?  When I responded that no I wasn't looking for a job I think it kind of perplexed this person.  But then it occurred to me, hey, I am already working.  I have a DBA and a resale number and a shop on Etsy.  I am busy downloading applications for exhibitions.  I am gearing up to take photos of my recent work  to submit for the exhibitions and to put new work on my Etsy shop.  I am also researching grad schools and applying for assistantships.  So, I am actually pretty busy.  Who has time for a job!  Haha.  How much money I will actually be making is an entirely different story.  I look at it more as an investment that I will need patience while I await for delayed gratification.

Happiness in the Air

While looking up skateboarding terminology I came across this quote by Merrill Markoe, “Every moment of your life that is not a complete nightmare is happiness.”  Yep, that about sums it up for me right about now.  On the plus side I don't really think I have a lot of nightmares because I try to look at life from the positive side, so I guess I'm pretty happy.  But sometimes I forget that.

These pics are of a friend of mine finding some happiness in the air.  I got out of the valley heat this past weekend and headed up to the mountains around Tahoe.  I got to catch up with some old friends and practice some action photography with my telephoto lens that has not had much use since I bought it a year ago.  I'm pretty pleased with how the shots came out.  I'd like some more blur in the background but I think I would need to invest in a longer lens.   First, I need to use the equipment I have a lot more.  Hmmm, contemplating a career shift into action sports photography.  Lol, yeah, it's been a strange day around here.
